Women's Gymnastics Falls Just Short to Rutgers
 

 
 
 

 
Canning continued her impressive start with two second place finshes

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - For the second consecutive meet, the Temple women's gymnastics squad came up just a few points short while competing on the road. The Cherry and White were narrowly defeated at Rutgers 187.525 to 185.325 on Wednesday evening.

The Owls (1-7) performed well in each of the events (Vault: 46.925, Bars: 46.425, Beam: 45.672, Floor: 46.300), but were edged by the Scarlet Knight in every event except for the Bars (Vault: 47:325, Bars: 46.375, Beam: 47.075, Floor: 46.750). Senior Desiree Meredith also fell in the all-around competition to Laura Sevarino of Rutgers 37.675- 34.550.

Freshmen Katie Canning was the top individual performer for the Cherry and White, continuing the impressive start to her young career. Canning finished second in both the floor (9.650) and balance beam (9.725). Junior Winter Sneed scored a third place finish on the balance beam with a score of 9.675. Sophomore Nina Oteri registered a third place finish in the floor exercise with a score of 9.475 and Meredith also finished third in the vault (9.675).

The Owls return to action this Saturday when they return home to host the Liberty Classic from McGonigle Hall. The event is schedules to begin at 1:00 p.m.
