Women's DMR Sets School and Texas Relay Records April 5, 2008 LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech finished the last day of the Texas Relays with a flourish of school records and titles. Patience Knight, Sandra Iwunze and the women's DMR all set new school records. After D'Andra Carter and Ozie Okolie won the discus and hammer throw, Patience Knight completed the sweep for the Red Raiders by winning the shot put. Knight was the top collegiate shot putter winning with a school record and NCAA regional throw of 55'-5.50". Carter placed sixth with a NCAA regional throw of 50'-6.75". The women's distance medley relay of Irene Kimaiyo, Jonisha Boleware, Gladys Kipsang and Sally Kipyego set a meet record, stadium record and new school record with a time of 11:01.17. The relay won the event by over 15 seconds. Sandra Iwunze for the second time in two days set a new school record in the 400M hurdles. She won the event with a NCAA regional qualifying time of 57.73. Kelley Schulz cleared a NCAA regional mark in the pole vault. She finished sixth with a height of 12'-7.50". Anthony Flemons jumped a NCAA regional mark of 51'-5" in the triple jump and finished ninth.
Harrison Benjamin finished seventh in the shot put with a NCAA regional throw of 56'-1". The men's distance medley relay of Edwin Sang, Lamont Adams, Silas Kemboi and Gilbert Limo finished third with a time of 9:46.67. Shawon Harris ran a NCAA regional time of 14.24 in the 110M hurdles to finish seventh. The men's 4x400M relay of Lamont Adams, Rodney Mims and Gil Roberts finished the day running a NCAA regional time of 3:05.68 to finish in fifth. Tech finished the Texas Relays with six titles, five new school records and 20 NCAA regional marks. Tech will host the Red Raider Open next Sat. April 12 at RP Fuller Stadium.
