LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech will be traveling to different parts of Texas to begin the outdoor season. A group of distance runners will be headed to the Victor Lopez Rice University Bayou Classic in Houston, Texas, and the rest will be headed to the UTEP Springtime Invitational in El Paso, Texas.

The outdoor season is highly anticipated for Tech as the men and women are both coming off successful indoor seasons. The men finished a program best third at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and the women tied a program best with a tenth place at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The distance group will be competing at the 26th Annual Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic on Friday starting at 7:40 p.m. with the 1500M run. After exhausting her indoor eligibility in 2007, All-American Irene Kimaiyo will be look to duplicate last season's outdoor success.

The group headed to the UTEP Springtime Invitational will start competing on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. All-American's Shawon Harris, Patience Knight, Julianne Kennedy and Anthony Flemons look to start the outdoor season with high marks.
