LUBBOCK, Texas - After defeating Arizona State Saturday morning, the Texas Tech soccer team cumulated a perfect spring run with a 1-0 victory over UTEP Sunday in El Paso, Texas.

Shannon Sims would score the match's only goal in the 13th minute, taking a Karen De Leon pass from 25 yards and firing it past the Miner goalkeeper. The goal was Sims' first this spring.

Seeing her first action as a Red Raider, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Haley Corbell held the Miners scoreless through the first 45 minute, giving Tech an early 1-0 halftime lead.

Both teams would be unable to score in the second half. Corbell and Colleen Pitts would combine for the shutout as Tech has not surrendered a goal in the last 180 minutes.

"It was another quality effort from our team, and it's always good to win, but I am most excited about how we closed the game," Tech Head Coach Tom Stone said. "UTEP came at us hard in the second half, trying to equalize, but we weathered the storm and eventually took the game back to secure the win. The girls have had a very good spring and should be very excited about our potential in the fall."

With the win, Tech finishes the spring season at 5-0, after already defeating Central Florida, West Texas A&M, TCU and Arizona State.
