Taku Qualifies for NCAA Regional in Triple Jump

OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore Nicolette Taku leapt into the NCAA Mideast Regional Saturday with a triple jump of 12.40 meters to lead the Tulane University track and field at the Ole Miss Invitational held at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex. Taku, a jumper from Baton Rouge, qualified for the outdoor NCAA Regional in the triple jump for the second year in a row, and also placed 11th in the long jump with a mark of 5.29m (17-04.25). The 4x400-meter relay `A' team, composed of senior Shanon Beelendorf, sophomore Jasmine Momoh, junior Vanessa Kienast and sophomore Valencia Wilson, won the race with a time of 3:44.15. Beelendorf finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.39, and Momoh also ran the 100-meter dash, where she placed seventh in the finals with a time of 12.12 seconds. Senior Taneekwa Ross finished 10th in the preliminaries, just missing the cut for the finals with a time of 12.14, and senior Andrea Rosemond ran a prelim time of 12.21. Junior Katarina Busljeta finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 42.00m (137-09), and finished ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.58m (139-08). Rosemond finished 12th in the 200m with a time of 25.03, while senior Kyra Lobbins placed 15th with a time of 25.06, sophomore Olivia Kizzee ran a time of 25.64 and freshman Aieshia Brooks ran 25.76. Kizzee placed 13th in the 400m with a time of 57.35, Brooks ran 57.63 and Wilson ran 57.89 in the 400m.
Freshman Rebecca Coady placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:50.98, and 17th in the 800m with a time of 2:25.21. Senior Keriann Langley finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:24.09, and freshman Caitlin Hornbeck ran the 1,500m in 5:40.17. The Green Wave 4x100 relay team of Ross, Momoh, Lobbins and Kizzee finished second and ran 46.19 seconds. The 4x400 relay Tulane `B' squad - Brooks, freshman Zandria Debowles, Lobbins and Kizzee - finished 12th with a time of 4:07.30. Freshman Zandria Debowles placed 19th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.40, and Kienast ran 1:09.90. Debowles finished eighth in the high jump with a personal best height of 1.55m (5-01.00), and freshman Peggy Keplinger finished 15th in the pole vault with a mark of 2.80m (9-02.25). At the LSU Combined Events Thursday and Friday evening, sophomore Arielle Minor finished seventh in the heptathlon, accumulating a personal-best 4322 points. She set three personal records, including the 200m (26.53 seconds), the 100m hurdles (15.42 seconds) and the shot put (11.47m, 37-07.75) by more than two feet. She narrowly missed a personal record in the high jump by one centimeter with a jump of 1.57m (5-01.75). Minor turned in a long jump mark of 5.07m (16-07.75), a javelin throw of 23.14m (75-11) and an 800m run time of 2:43.62. The Green Wave return to action next weekend when the team travels to the Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational.
