Tulane Women's Track and Field Travels to Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup Friday

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University women's track and field team departs today for the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in University, Pa., the Green Wave's biggest meet thus far in the 2008 indoor track and field season and an event held at the Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Facility on the campus of Penn State University.

Sophomore multi-event competitor Arielle Minor competes in the pentathlon today at the LSU Combined Events meet at the Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge, La.

The Green Wave participated in the Purple Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. on Jan. 19, a non-scoring meet in which senior distance runner Aubrey Phillips won the mile run with a time of 5:12.76. Other top finishers for the Wave included senior Gloria Asumnu (fourth in the 60-meter dash - 7.36), freshman Olivia Kizzee (fourth in the 200m - 25.76), freshmen Laurie Dalrymple and Rebecca Coady (third and fourth in the one mile run, respectively). Senior Keriann Langley placed third in the 3,000m, while freshman Zandria DeBowles finished fourth in the high jump with a 1.67m (5-05.75) mark, and the 4x400 relay team posted a time of 3:47.47 and third place showing.

Sprinters participating for Wave include Asumnu and Kizzee in the 60m and Asumnu, Kizzee, junior Kyra Lobbins and junior Shaina Pelham in the 200m. Pelham, junior Vanessa Kienast, Asumnu, sophomore Valencia Wilson, Debowles, senior Shanon Beelendorf and Lobbins are all scheduled to run the 4x400-meter relay. Debowles, Kienast and sophomore Jasmine Momoh will run the 400m.

Beelendorf and Coady will take on the 800-meter run, and Coady and Phillips will run the one mile race. Freshman Laurie Dalrymple and Phillips will run the 5,000m race as well.

In the field portion of the meet, Debowles will try her hand in the long jump this week, while sophomore multi-event competitor Nicolette Taku will test her mettle in the long jump and triple jump. Junior thrower Katarina Busljeta will launch the shot put and compete in the weight throw.
