Tulane Tangles with UCF Friday in Florida

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave will meet the UCF Knights on Friday at 6 p.m. CT in Orlando as the Conference USA women's basketball season hits the homestretch. Tulane looks for its fourth win in five games. Alendra Brown is averaging 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in he last four games. Tulane (14-11 overall) sits at 4-8 in conference with four C-USA games remaining. The Knights enter the game at 8-17 overall and 1-11 in C-USA. In the last four games, the Green Wave have upped their scoring average by nine points per game (from 60.2 in the first eight C-USA games to 69.2). In the previous eight C-USA games, Tulane posted a 1-7 record. Tulane is averaging 67.3 points allowed in C-USA action (67.4 in the first eight games, 67.0 in the last four). One of the Wave's keys to the offense has been the return of a long-range game. Tulane connected at a .268 clip from three-point range in the first eight C-USA games; and .400 in the last four. Leading the charge from behind the arc has been Nikki Luckhurst, who has connected on 14-of-28 three-pointers in her last four games.
In the last four games, Luckhurst has climbed to third on Tulane's all-time three-pointers list and 10th in C-USA history with 180 made treys. On Saturday, Tulane topped Houston, 73-69 as five players reached double-figures. Senior Dominique Philpots continued her climb towards fourth on Tulane's all-time blocked shots list, as she now sits six back of Angela Rust with 84. Tulane blocked a season-best seven shots against the Cougars. The Knights have lost seven in a row following a win at Rice on January 20. Tulane's road trip will continue Sunday at Southern Miss (15-10 overall, 6-6 C-USA entering Friday's game vs UTEP). Tip-off with the Golden Eagles is at 2 p.m. CT. |
