ARLINGTON, Texas - - UT Arlington left-handed pitcher Marc Picca has been named this week's Southland Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for his performance in UTA's 4-3 victory on Wednesday against Texas.
Player of the Week is voted on by league Sports Information Directors.
Picca, who shares the award with UTSA's Kris Ruepke, joins teammate Nathan Long as Mavericks who have won the Player of the Week award. Long won during the first week of the season.
Picca got the start against Texas in the mid-week game, which came one day after the Mavericks beat Oklahoma State, 7-3. Picca was good from the beginning until he handed the game over to the Mavericks bullpen to secure the win.
A freshman from Fort Worth, Picca, tossed six innings and allowed just three runs. The victory gave the Mavericks their second consecutive win against a ranked opponent. Texas entered the game ranked No. 20 in the nationa and were averaging six runs per game over their previous 10 games before facing Picca and UTA's defense.
