UTA vs. Texas State Game Notes ![]()
ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's basketball team will be in Texas Hall for the final game of the regular season when the Mavericks take on Texas State Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m.
Saturday's game marks the final regular-season home game for seniors Maryann Abanobi (Sugarland) and Tiffeny Riles (Lewisville) who will be honored prior to tip-off.
Abanobi leads the Mavs with 12.3 points a game, while junior Candice Champion adds 10.3 points on a league-best 53.3 field goal percentage. Champion and Riles rank first and second in shooting percentage in the conference while Riles also leads the team with an average 7.8 rebounds per game.
Scouting Texas State...
Texas State has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament and its first regular season title with a 14-1 record in league play and 20-8 record on the season. The team's lone SLC loss of the season came back on Jan. 26 to UTSA. Since the Bobcats have won nine straight games.
Senior Joyce Ekworomadu leads the Bobcats and ranks second in the conference with 18.3 points a game, while reigning SLC Player of the Week Ashley Cole contributes 11.7 off the bench.
Series History with the Bobcats...
This will be the 51st meeting between the Mavericks and Bobcats. TXST leads 30-20 in the series, but UTA holds a slim 10-9 lead in games played at Texas Hall. The Mavs have won four of the last five meetings with the Bobcats.
The Coaches...
Samantha Morrow became the eighth head coach in UT Arlington women's basketball history in May. She has posted a 17-9 record in her first season coaching at the collegiate level after amassing a 413-77 (.843) record at the high school level. Suzanne Fox has posted a 145-165 record in 11 years as the Bobcats head coach.
Looking Ahead...
The Mavs will be heading to the Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas. This year's tournament will be played at the Merrell Center with the women's tournament beginning on Wednesday, March 12 and the men's action kicking off on Thursday, March 13.
