Jones, Hulme honored for Mavs 4-1 record last week

FRISCO, Texas - After helping UT Arlington to a 4-1 record last week, including a SLC series sweep over Southeastern Louisiana, senior Katie Jones and sophomore Cara Hulme were voted this week's Southland Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week. For Jones, it is her second career honor as she first earned the award on March 13, 2007. Hulme wins her third career honor and third of the season, as she was selected on March 11 and March 18.

Hitter of the Week:

Katie Jones, Senior, OF, Cedar Hill, Texas

Jones helped lead the Mavericks to a 4-1 record last week, with a win over Texas Tech and the SLC series sweep of Southeastern Louisiana. Jones hit safely in all five games, recording multiple hits in all-but-one. She scored a run and a RBI in four of the five contests. In game one against Texas Tech, she became the 24th player in SLC history to record 200 career hits. For the week, Jones hit a pair of home runs and two doubles, leading the Mavs with four RBI, without recording a strikeout.

Pitcher of the Week:

Cara Hulme, Soph., RHP, Van, Texas

Hulme went a perfect 4-0 this week posting a win over Texas Tech and recording all three wins in the Mavericks SLC series sweep of Southeastern Louisiana. Hulme notched her fifth shutout of the season on Saturday against the Lions, giving up just one hit. She became the first SLC pitcher this season to record a win against the Red Raiders with the 5-3 decision on Tuesday. For the week, Hulme pitched 31 innings giving up just seven earned runs on 22 hits, while striking out 29.
