ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team will close out the regular season with a three-game Southland Conference series against Central Arkansas at Allan Saxe Field. The series will begin with the first game of a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday. The Mavericks will honor seven seniors, Kristin Moore, Brittany Stevens, Laura Jones, April Clougherty, Katie Jones, Amanda Brown and Amanda Swofford prior to the 12 p.m. game.
The Mavericks (24-21, 17-10) are currently fourth in the Southland Conference and have secured a spot in the league tournament which will be held May 8-10 in San Marcos.
UTA is led offensively by senior left fielder Katie Jones who is batting .325 with 30 runs, 6 doubles, five home runs and seven stolen bases. Senior short stop Amanda Swofford follows with a .319 average, a team-leading 26 RBI and 11 home runs. Sophomore catcher Samantha Chumchal rounds out the top three with a .316 average, seven runs, 19 RBI.
Cara Hulme (15-6) leads the Mavs in the circle with a 1.99 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 151.1 innings pitched. She is holding opponents to a .246 batting average and has tossed five complete-game shutouts this season.
Central Arkansas (6-40, 4-22) is led by sophomore third baseman Keatha Tollett with a .273 average and 11 runs.
