Broncs Fall 4-3 to Texas Christian University

May 11, 2008

A four-run sixth inning by TCU proved to much for the Broncs, as they dropped a 4-3 decision on Saturday (May 10) in Fort Worth, TX at the Lupton Stadium.

With the setback, the Broncs fell to 18-32 on the season while the Horned Frogs improved to 36-16 overall.

Both teams were held scoreless for five innings till the Broncs got on board in the top of the sixth, collecting two runs on three hits.

Roly Gonzalez, Bonham Hough and Billy Donaho led the sixth inning with three back-to-back singles to load the bases for Jordan Rutenbar who reached on a fielder's choice and plated Gonzalez. A sacrifice fly to center field by Ryan Vest scored Hough and gave the Broncs a 2-0 advantage.

The Horned Frogs came right back in the bottom half of the frame and produced four runs on two hits. Two consecutive walks issued by the Broncs started the inning and a throwing error by the second basemen plated TCU's first run of the game. With the bases loaded a ground out to the second basemen by Bryan Kervin scored Vern from third. A Clint Arnold double down the left field line plated Ben Carruthers who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. Chris Ellington followed with a single up the middle and the last run of the inning came when the Broncs were caught off guard and Arnold stole home, to make the score 4-2.

The Broncs tried to start a rally in the eighth but fell short, collecting one run on one hit. Hough got on board when he was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single to right field by Vest, making the score 4-3.

Shane Janecka took the loss for the Broncs, dropping his record to 2-6. Janecka pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three hits, four runs - two earned while only walking four batters.

Offensively the Broncs were led by Vest who went 2-for-3 with two RBI's while Hough finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Broncs will play game two of the three game set this afternoon against the Horned Frogs at 1 p.m.
