UTPA newcomers Ashwin Vijayaragavan (Andhrapradesh, India/Kenedy Vidya Bhavan HS) and Marcus Dornauf (East Launceston, Tasmania, Aus/Scotch Oakburn College Prep) earned 2008 All-Southland Conference Second-Team laurels, which was released on Thursday (Apr. 24).
In his first season in a Broncs uniform, Vijayaragavan secured the number-two starting spot collecting a 12-7 singles' record. Vijayaragavan recorded wins over nationally-ranked teams from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Lamar, UT Arlington, and Nicholls State.
In doubles' action, the newcomer played in the number-one and number-two spot in the lineup collecting an 8-8 record with wins coming against nationally-ranked teams from Southeastern Louisiana and UT-Arlington.
Vijayaragavan finished with a 4-1 record playing in the number-two spot in conference action.
Dornauf made an immediate impact in his first season collecting a 12-7 singles record playing in the number-six spot in the rotation and finishing with a 7-12 doubles record.
The newcomer collected victories over nationally-ranked programs from Southeastern Louisiana and UT-Arlington while finishing with a 4-1 conference record playing in the sixth spot in the lineup.
Vijayaragavan and Dornauf and the rest of the Bronc tennis team are competing at the Southland Conference Tournament this weekend in Nacogdoches, TX where they will first match-up against Southeastern Louisiana.
