The University of Texas-Pan American men and women's track and field program had a great showing at the Texas State Open hosted by Texas State University held this Friday (March 8) at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Sabrina Montalvo finished third with a time of 14.73 while teammate Sara Hernandez finished in sixth with a time of 15.27.
Junior Vanessa Brown continues with her successes in the 400-meter dash by placing first with a time of 57.07 with teammate Ashlon Martin finishing three spots behind in fourth with a time of 1:00.04.
In distance, Carolina Izaguirre finished second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:16.97. Freshman Diana Galloso finished in fourth for the Lady Broncs with a time of 10:34.74 with Rose Escovedo finishing in sixth with a time of 10: 51.49 and Sara Rodriguez in eighth with a time of 10:59.38.
After coming off an injury last season, Stephanie Perez finished in first in the discus with a toss of 155-04. Fellow-thrower Michelle Elizondo finished third in the hammer throw with a throw of 138-05 and javelin-thrower Brenda Gonzalez finished fourth with a throw of 91-06.
On the men's side, newcomer Jameson Strahon competed in the 400-meter dash placing third with a time of 49.12. Junior Ruben Cantu placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.30.
In the 1500-meter run, senior Luis Nava finished in third with a time of 3:59.10 with Wally Gonzalez finishing a spot behind in fourth with a time of 4:07.28 and newcomer Rolando Vela in sixth with a time of 4:08.61.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, J.J. Hernandez placed first with a time of 9:15.43.
The men and women's track and field program will be back in action on Saturday (March 21) for the Texas Southern University Relays. The meet will be an all-day event.
