Eleven points in overtime was enough for the Lady Broncs to seal a 62-55 victory against Chicago State on Saturday (Feb. 2) at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The Lady Broncs improved their overall record to 10-13 and extended their win streak to two games.
LeKeisha Gray led all scorers with 22 points, seven points coming in overtime. Gray went 5-of-17 from the floor, 12-of-16 from the charity stripe to go with seven rebounds and six steals in 39 minutes of action.
In the opening minutes of the first half, CSU took an 6-0 advantage following a three-pointer by Courtney Waldon.
After connecting on a three-pointer, Tiona Wilson led the Lady Broncs to a 12-2 run which put UTPA up 17-10 with 9:24 left on the clock. The Cougars were able to cut the deficit to one and take a 21-19 advantage following a three-pointer by Ashley Waldon at the six minute mark.
The Lady Broncs headed into the locker rooms with a 27-24 lead after Gray connected on fast break lay-up following a missed jumper by Laureen Pierson.
UTPA finished the first half shooting 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from the floor compared to 43.8 percent (7of-16) for Chicago State.
The Cougars opened the second half on fire and took a 32-29 advantage after Waldon connected on her second three-pointer of the night with 16:12 remaining in the second half.
Jessica Walker put the Lady Broncs back on top 41-40 after a made jumper at the 7:46 mark and paved the way for UTPA's offense to come alive.
At the score tied at 49-49 a jumper by Teshay Winfrey with 54 seconds remaining in the second half looked to seal the deal for the Lady Broncs but a foul committed by Walker led to two made free throws by Dixon which led to overtime.
Eleven points in overtime was all the Lady Broncs needed to clinch their second straight win and ninth victory at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
For the game, UTPA finished shooting 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the field compared to 38.6 percent (17-of-44) for CSU.
Robin Garret collected 11 points and four rebounds while Walker chipped in with seven points in 18 minutes of action.
Dixon finished with 18 points on 5-of-14 shooting, 2-of-3 from behind the arc, 6-of-9 from the charity stripe to go with four rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 9) when they take on Utah Valley in Orem, UT with game-time slated for 4:05 p.m.
