The University of Texas-Pan American men's and women's tennis team will hit the road for a weekend in Lubbock, TX and Austin, TX.
The men's and women's tennis program will first make a stop in Lubbock, TX where they will face-off against Texas Tech on Jan. 26 followed by a match-up against Clemson in Austin, TX on Sunday (Jan. 27) at 9 a.m.
"We would like to be playing these teams three or four weeks into the season but getting back on their schedule was the first move and we're glad for that," said head men's and women's coach Rob Hubbard. "We're playing them a little earlier but we'll see how we do."
On the men's side, the Broncs are coming off a dominating 7-0 win over College of the Southwest on Saturday (Jan. 19) at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The Red Raiders are led by top doubles duo Bojan Szumanski and Christian Rojmar who were the first doubles' team in program history to qualify for the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoors Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Clemson is coming off a 6-1 victory over Citadel on Monday (Jan. 21). The Tigers finished the 2006-07 season with a 31-10 overall record and a 6-5 conference record.
The Lady Broncs will look to capture their first wins of the season as they face-off against the Red Raiders on Friday followed by Air Force on Saturday.
The Lady Raiders finished last season with a loss to No.11 Texas Longhorns at the 2007 Big 12 Tennis Championships. Texas Tech is led by junior Samantha Van der Drift who was the only Lady Raider chosen to the All-Big 12 women's tennis team.
Air Force finished the 2007-08 season with a 10-16 overall record and suffered a first round setback over Colorado State at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championships last year.
The Lady Broncs will look to capture their first win of the season while the Broncs will look to improve on their 1-0 overall record.
"I think the women are playing well and both teams are in good shape. The women are hitting the ball well and I think there anxious to get started," added Hubbard.
