Malin Andersen

Andersen Inks with Women's Tennis

May 8, 2008

Head men's and women's tennis coach Robert Hubbard announced the signing of Malin Andersen (Kungalv, Sweden/ Goteborgs Stad Katrinelundsgymnasiet H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2008-09 academic campaign.

"Malin will be a great addition to our program this upcoming fall," said Hubbard. "She possesses weapons in her serve and forehand as well as being an accomplished net player. She should provide great help in the doubles area to go along with her singles play. I am truly looking forward to working with Malin during her collegiate career here at UTPA."

The newly-signed Lady Bronc comes to the Rio Grande Valley from Kungalv, Sweden where she was an indoor regional quarterfinalist in 2007 and was crowned champion of the Partille Energy Women's Cup Elite in 2007.

In 2006, the newly-inked Lady Bronc was a member of the Swedish Tennisseries Women's Outdoors where she won eight of 10 matches in the West Division II and the team took fourth place laurels.

Andersen was named the Ringhals Open Girls 18 Champion and the Strandbadstuneringen Women's Class B Champion in 2005. The future Lady Bronc is currently ranked 92nd in the women's national ranking.

Andersen joins the UTPA women's program that finished the 2007-08 campaign with the best all-time single season record of 17-8 and with Hubbard selected as the Independent Coach of the Year.
