Denton, Texas- - The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams won eight events at the North Texas Classic meet on Friday, April 11.

April Murphy won the women's 800-meter run in a time of 2:19.25 as she easily held off Emily Haynes of Oklahoma Baptist, who finished the race in 2:21.40.

Rebekah Vickers continued her outstanding senior campaign as she increased her season-best mark in the pole vault after clearing 3.86 meters (12-8).

Alaysha Ford edged teammates Sonetria Mayfield and Sara Olayiwola in the women's triple jump. Ford had a season-best mark of 12.01 meters with a legal wind, while Mayfield was the runner up with a leap of 11.63 meters and Olayiwola finished in third place with a jump of 11.46 meters.

Kayla Smith won the women's shot put with a mark of 12.87 meters to edge Stacy of Orakpo of North Texas by two centimeters.

Jarrod Buddin won the men's pole vault and qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships after clearing 5.05 meters. Casey Cummings was the runner up after clearing 4.75 meters.

Jonathan Williams won the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.89 meters, edging teammate Ikenna Obonna, who finished in second place with a jump of 14.52 meters.

 

 

Dan Schmidt won both the men's discus with a throw of 45.24 meters and men's hammer throw with a throw of 50.51 meters. Schmidt edged teammate Andy Ysebaert, who was the runner up in both the discus and shot put. Ysebaert had a throw of 43.97 meters in the discus and a mark of 14.94 meters in the shot put.
