Baseball Inks Burford for 2009 season

SAN MARCOS - Texas State baseball head coach Ty Harrington has announced the addition of Marshall Burford to the 2008 recruiting class that will join the Texas State Bobcat baseball team next season. Burford, who is currently a catcher for the Manor High School Mustangs, verbally committed to the `Cats this week. In his senior season with the Mustangs, Burford boasts a team-leading .500 batting average coupled with a team-high 34 RBI. The standout leads not only the team, but District 17-4A in homeruns, launching 11 to date, which enhances his slugging average to 1.141. "Marshall will be a great addition to this team," said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Derek Matlock. "He has the right attitude and baseball mentality that we look for in student-athletes and we can't wait for him to be a Bobcat." Burford will join 11 newcomers that signed with Texas State in November.
