Final Stats
For the first time in 2007, Texas State scored on its first series. A 26-yard touchdown pass from Bradley George to Alvin Canady capped a 5-play, 63-yard drive after Morris Crosby had a 28-yard kickoff return to the UCA 37.
Texas State entered the game having been outscored 52-27 in the first quarter. Thursday, Central Arkansas scored on all three of their drives in the first quarter. The Bears averaged almost 13 yards per play in the quarter. UCA would score on six of its eight offensive series in the first half.
Junior quarterback Clint Toon entered the game and played Texas State's fourth possession. Bradley George reentered the contest for the Bobcats first series of the second half.
Texas State defensive end Nick Clark was named a semifinalist for the Draddy Award and the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Awards on Thursday. Later in the day he registered seven tackles, had two tackles for lost yards, a sack and forced a fumble to set up a touchdown drive in the Bobcats' game against Central Arkansas.
Texas State started four true freshmen on defense Thursday. Both of the Bobcats' starting safeties, T.P. Miller and Derrick Wilson, along with linebackers Marcus Clark and Brian Williams are all true freshmen.
The 63 points by Central Arkansas were the most scored against the Bobcats since New Mexico beat Texas State 72-8 in the 2003 season opener. The 63 points also tied for the most points Texas State has given up in a Southland Conference game.
Central Arkansas' eight touchdown passes tied a Southland Conference record set by Stephen F. Austin against Louisiana-Monroe in 1989.
Texas State made its first of three appearances on Fox Sports Net Southwest. The Bobcats' homecoming game next Saturday against Stephen F. Austin has been moved to a 3:30 p.m. kickoff and will also be carries on FSN Southwest. The final game of the year against intra-state rival Sam Houston State will also be carries by FSN Southwest.
