SAN MARCOS - Texas State women's basketball will participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Think Pink" initiative when the Bobcats take the floor Thursday night at 7 p.m. against McNeese State to join in raising breast cancer awareness.

Texas State is one of over 900 schools participating in the event, held nationwide February 8-17. Bobcat Head Coach Suzanne Fox is asking fans to wear pink to Thursday's game to show their support, and the first 200 fans through the doors on Thursday will receive free pink wristbands.

On the court, Bobcat players will wear pink shoelaces to help support the cause. The officials for Thursday's contest will also get involved, using pink whistles as part of the NCAA's "Calling for a Cure" campaign.

"It's great to be involved with a program like `Think Pink'," said Fox. "Breast cancer is something all women need to know about, and I'm glad we can use basketball to help promote awareness and try to find a cure."

Across the country, several WBCA partners and sponsors have chosen to get involved in the WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative. ESPN has joined the initiative by dedicating their annual "February Frenzy" and "Big Monday" women's college basketball games on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com to promoting breast cancer awareness and supporting the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation.

WBCA sponsor Russell Athletic, among several others, has also jumped on board with the initiative, providing numerous schools with pink uniforms and apparel. They are donating a portion of any proceeds to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
