Ekworomadu Named SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO - Texas State senior guard Joyce Ekworomadu was voted as the Southland Conference Player of the Week after leading the Bobcats to a pair of wins over the top two teams in the SLC East, league offices announced on Monday. The Bobcats defeated McNeese State 99-50 at home before traveling to Beaumont to battle Lamar, and Texas State came away with an impressive 69-53 win over the Lady Cardinals. Against McNeese State, Ekworomadu led a first-half assault on the record books, scoring 17 points in only 12 minutes while hitting four three-pointers. Texas State finished the first half up 62-14, tying the school record for points in a half. Ekworomadu finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds as the Bobcats set a new team record for three-pointers made in a game with 14 while also tying the record for points against a Southland Conference opponent. The hot shooting continued for Ekworomadu in Beaumont, where she finished as the only Texas State player in double figures in the win over the Cardinals. Ekworomadu scored 24 points while pulling down seven rebounds while adding three assists and three steals. This award marks the second SLC Player of the Week honor of the 2007-08 season for Ekworomadu. On the season she is averaging 17.4 points per game overall and 19.7 points in SLC games while also leading the conference in free throw percentage and ranking second in three-point percentage.
