SAN MARCOS - Complete Release in PDF Format
The Texas State women's basketball team travels to UTSA on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tussle that will determine the leader in the Southland Conference standings. Fans can follow live stats at goutsa.com and listen to the game at 89.9 FM KTSW or online at txstatebobcats.com. Saturday's winner will also be awarded two points in the I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry Series presented by IBC Bank. A Bobcat win would give the `Cats a one and a half game lead in the standings while a Roadrunner win would put UTSA (18-6, 10-1 SLC) in the driver's seat with a half-game lead and the tiebreaker over Texas State (17-8, 11-1 SLC). The Roadrunners defeated the Bobcats 81-68 in San Marcos on January 26. The loss is the only blemish in Strahan Coliseum this season for the Bobcats, who closed out their home schedule with a 78-62 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday. Joyce Ekworomadu tied her season high with 27 points, upping her conference-leading scoring average to 17.8 points. Ekworomadu also leads the Southland in free throw percentage and has been the main cog in an offense that scores a league-best 76.4 points per game. Texas State also tops the SLC in field goal percentage, rebounding and turnover margin. Ashley Cole averages 10.6 points off the bench to balance the scoring while Aimee Hilburn chips in 7.3 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game. Brooke DeGrate anchors the perimeter as one of the league leaders in steals, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. Monica Gibbs leads UTSA into Saturday after nearly recording a triple double in a win at Texas-Arlington Thursday, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Gibbs leads the Southland in assists with 6.21 and ranks third in rebounding at 7.7 per game. Onika Anderson ranks second in conference play in the league with 15.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game while Terrie Davis leads the league with 2.61 three pointers per game. Davis also ranks second on the Roadrunners in scoring at 12.2 points and is one of four UTSA players averaging double digits. Gibbs averages 10.4 points while Whitney York nets 10.3.
