Bobcat Women Close Out Regular Season at UTA

SAN MARCOS - Texas State closes its 2007-08 regular season schedule having already secured its first-ever Southland Conference regular season championship with a 4 p.m. tip at Texas-Arlington on Saturday, Mar. 8. The Bobcats (20-8, 14-1 SLC) have won nine straight games, including a 63-59 win over the Mavericks (17-9, 12-3 SLC) on Feb. 9. UTA has won three straight games and currently sits tied with UTSA in the battle for the No. 2 seed at next week's SLC Tournament. Texas State ranks as the Southland's highest scoring offense at 76.3 points per game in what has been a record-setting season. The `Cats have already set the school record for points in an SLC game and both three pointers made and atttmped in a season while tying the mark for points in a half. Joyce Ekworomadu rank second in the Southland in scoring at 18.3 points while reigning SLC Player of the Week Ashley Cole nets 11.7 off the bench. Brooke DeGrate leads the Bobcats in assists, steals and blocks while Aimee Hilburn collects 5.9 rebounds per game. UTA is led by Maryann Abanobi's 12.3 points per game while Candice Champion adds 10.3 points on a league-best 53.3 field goal percentage. Champion and teammate Tiffeny Riles rank first and second in shooting percentage while Riles also averages 7.8 rebounds per game. Texas State also looks to win at UTA for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Bobcats trail the all-time series 29-21.
