SAN MARCOS - Texas State head women's basketball coach Suzanne Fox announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent for the 2007-08 season during the spring signing period. The `Cats have inked Bryonna Dawson, a 5-10 guard out of John Paul Stevens High School in San Antonio, and Megan Homan, a 6-3 forward from Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines, Iowa. The duo will unite with early signees Verinus Kalu, Lacey Klause and Kelsey Krupa to hit the hardwood as the newest Bobcats in the fall.

"In this recruiting class we feel like we're really doing a great job filling specific needs," Fox said. "We felt like we needed student-athletes who wanted to play in our style of play and have both great defensive effort and the offensive versatility to do so. So much of our philosophy is that we don't always play with set positions. We really try to look at players as players instead of positions, and then we try to put them in areas where they can be successful."

Another key aspect of the class will be their ability to replace a trio of seniors and five players who will be seniors in 2009.

"We're graduating three this year and five the next," said Fox. "Combine that with our style of play, and there are a lot of opportunities for this class and next year's class to come in, contribute early and make a significant impact if they work hard and really want it."

Bryonna "Bree" Dawson a senior guard for Coach Steve Sylestine, averaged 10.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game while playing for the Falcons. Dawson, a TABC All-Region selection, led Stevens High School to a 25-10 record and both Bi-district and Area championships during the 2007-08 season.

Dawson cited a getting a chance to play in Texas State's up-tempo attack and the quality of academic programs as major reasons for choosing `Cats.

"I chose Texas State because I really like the aggressive style of basketball played there," said Dawson, "And I will also get a good education and work hard in doing so."

"We really didn't know Bree well until this fall," said Fox. "We happened to be watching another young lady play when Bree really caught our eye. We continued to watch her throughout the year and fell in love with how hard she played. I think she has a great chance to be successful in our program."

Megan Homan is a sophomore forward at Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines, Iowa, where she played for Coach Steve Krafcisin. While playing for the Bears, Homan, a two-time All-Conference selection, averaged 5.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game during her sophomore year, while leading DMACC to a 24-8 record this season.

Homan, a Remsen, Iowa native, said feeling comfortable with the Bobcat coaching staff and chance to study at the McCoy School of Business as major reasons in choosing Texas State.

"I knew after my official visit that Texas State was a perfect fit for me," said Homan. "It's a highly respected university that will give me every opportunity to succeed as a student as well as an athlete. The coaching staff will teach and encourage me to be successful at basketball and at life. I look forward to working with Coach Fox and her staff."

"Megan could not be a more perfect fit for our program. She is not only a smart, hard-working player, but she is also an outstanding person," Fox said. "The most impressive part of Megan's game is how good she can be without the ball in her hands. She played in a system where her defense and leadership were real anchors for her team and that's what really attracted us to her."

"Our staff has done an outstanding job in securing parts for another quality recruiting class," Fox said. "They've done a great job of working together to bring in young ladies who can achieve success in the classroom and play our style at Texas State. We've put together a plan, put in the hours and it's really paid off. It's also an example of what you can do when your administration gives you resources and the faculty does a tremendous job of presenting our institution. It's rewarding to see the result has been a group of quality young ladies who can play both ends of the floor and play them the Texas State way."
