Texas State Women's Golf Team Stands In 10th Place At Pinehurst Challenge

Pinehurst, N.C. - - Freshman Sehee Kim shot a four-over par 76 and is tied for eighth place following the first round at the Pinehurst Challenge Sunday afternoon. Kim began the day on the par 72, 5,968-yard Pinehurst #8 course with a 41 through the first nine holes and came into the clubhouse shooting a 35 on the back nine. Texas State stands in 10th place among 22 teams with a team score of 322. In addition to Sehee's 76 score, Trine Mortensen ended the first round tied for 39th place after shooting an 81. Linn Gustafsson, who returned to Texas State's lineup after sitting out the Islander Classic with an ankle sprain, is tied for 54th place in the individual standings with an 82 and Caitlin Bliss is one shot back and tied for 65th place. East Tennessee State leads the team standings after shooting a 307, while Tennessee-Chattanooga is in second place with a 311. North Carolina-Greensboro is tied with East Carolina for third place after firing a team score of 313, and Boise State rounds out the top five teams at 314. The host school, College of Charleston finished the first round in sixth place with a team score of 317, while Georgia State is one shot back in seventh place. South Florida is in eighth place after combining for a 319 team score, Oregon State is in ninth place with 321, one shot ahead of Texas State. The Bobcats are one shot ahead of Maryland and Augusta State, who are tied for 11th place at 323, and Penn State is in 13th place after shooting a 324. Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina round out the top 15 schools after both teams shot a 326 and 327, respectively in the first round. Charleston Steffi Kirchmayr and Christine Wolf of Tennessee-Chattanooga are the individual leaders after they shot a one-over-par 73 score. Chattanooga's Emma deGroot, Maria Ringdahl and Lucy Gould of East Tennessee State, Emelie Line of East Carolina and Gennifer Mendez of USF are tied for third place two shots back. Sehee is tied with Nikki Olson and Minhee Park of Boise State, Laura Jansone of East Tennessee, Elin Mickelsson of Western Carolina and Joanna Klatten of Charleston for eighth place with a 76. Six other players are tied for 14th place after shooting a 77 in the first round. The tournament continues with the second round on Monday, Mar. 10 and the third round on Tuesday, Mar. 11.
