Texas State Women's Golf Team Posts Best Score In The First Round Of The Gainesville Shootout III

Gainesville, Fla. - - Featuring a lineup that consists of Golfstat's top freshman class, the Texas State University women's golf team fired a team score of 301 to take the first round lead at the Gainesville Shootout III on the par 70, 5,907-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Heading the list of Texas State's freshmen was Linn Gustafsson, who is tied for fifth place in the individual standings after playing her best round of the spring. Gustafsson finished the first round with a 3-over-par score of 73 in the first round after shooting an even-par 35 on the first nine holes and a 38 score on the back nine.

Trine Mortensen is tied for eighth place after she fired a 5-over-par 75 in the opening round of the tournament. Mortensen also shot an even par score of 35 on the first nine holes before ending her round with a 40 on the back nine.

Caitlin Bliss ended the first day tied for 13th place after she shot a 6-over par score of 76, while Sehee Kim and Adin Stromgren are tied for 20th place after shooting a 7-over-par 77 in the first round.

Texas State holds a seven-shot lead over Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Illinois State. Michigan and Illinois are tied for fourth place with a team score of 309, while West Florida is in sixth place after shooting 311 as a team. Louisiana-Monroe (313), Nevada (314), UT-Pan American (315) and Wofford College (316) are tied for 10th place.

Nicole Schachner of Florida and Lindsay Davis of Michigan are the individual leaders after they finished with an even-par 70 in the first round. Laura Harris of Illinois State is in third place after shooting a 1-over-par 71, while Alex Rankin of Wofford is in fourth place with a 2-over-par 72.

Gustafsson is tied with Sara Larsson of Louisiana-Monroe and Ashley Olynick of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for fifth place after they shot a 73 on the first day.

 

 

Mortensen is tied with Marisa Milligan of Illinois State, Eleanor Tucker of Florida, Natalia Espinosa of West Florida and Raquel Hopton of Illinois for eighth place.

The Gainesville Shootout is a three-day tournament that concludes Saturday and includes teams from Albany, Appalachian State, Florida, Illinois, Illinois State, Iowa, Louisiana-Monroe, Michigan, Nevada, Southern Miss, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American, Texas State, Troy, West Florida and Wofford. Florida is competing with three individuals and will not be included in the team scores.
