SAN MARCOS - After winning the regular season title for the first time since 2002, the Texas State softball team (37-18, 25-5 SLC) will be the No. 1 seed and tournament host in the 2008 Southland Conference Tournament that runs May 8-10 in San Marcos.

The Bobcats earned byes for the tournament's first two rounds and advances automatically to the semifinals on Friday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. Texas-Arlington (27-21, 20-10 SLC) also advances through the first two rounds after finishing second in the regular season due to a tie-breaker edge over UTSA (25-24, 20-10 SLC).

No. 5 McNeese State (23-36, 15-14 SLC) opened day one action with a 5-4 win over No. 8 Southeastern Louisiana (27-25, 14-15 SLC). No. 6 Nicholls State (30-27, 15-14 SLC) then advanced with a 2-1 win over Sam Houston State (30-31, 15-15 SLC) in the other early afternoon game before the two quarterfinal matchups Thursday night.

McNeese State took the field again against No. 4 Stephen F. Austin (34-23, 18-11 SLC) in one quarterfinal, and the Ladyjacks came away with an 8-0 victory. Nicholls State closed out day one action with a dramatic 3-2, extra-inning win over the No. 3 Roadrunners to advance to the semifinals.

Friday action kicks off at 4 p.m. with Texas-Arlington playing against Nicholls State before Texas State will take to the field at 6:30 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin.

The 2008 Southland Conference Tournament Championship Game will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Texas State Ticket Office at 512-245-2272 or in person at the softball field. Day passes are $10 while All-Tournament passes are $25. Students with a valid student ID to any Southland Conference member institution will be admitted free.

Parking for the tournament will primarily be in the football west parking lot of Bobcat Stadium due to Texas State Commencement. The lot is located behind HEB and can be accessed from Aquarena Springs or by turning onto Robbie Lane from Thorpe.
