LUBBOCK - Texas State women's tennis opened its 2008 season in Lubbock with a 4-3 win over Air Force on Friday before falling to Texas Tech 7-0 on Saturday.

Lainy Chafitz and Alejandra Gulida each blanked their opponents for a set as Chafitz won 6-3, 6-0 and Gulida 6-0, 7-5. With Andrea Giraldo defeating Lauren Wilson 6-2, 6-4 in the top slot, Sumarie Muller's win from the No. 5 position locked up the match for Texas State. Giraldo and Chafitz also paired together to win their doubles match, although Air Force won the doubles point.

Texas State could not replicate its success the next day against the Red Raiders in the 7-0 loss. Giraldo and Chafitz posted the lone Bobcat win by taking the top doubles match, but Texas Tech still won the doubles point with victories in the other two doubles' matches.

The Bobcats return to action February 2 at Texas A&M.
