Sky Johnston Named Big West Track Athlete of Week

UCI senior qualifies for regional in steeplechase

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Sky Johnston (Quartz Hill/Joshua Christian HS) has been named the Big West Conference male Track Athlete of the Week after his NCAA regional-qualifying performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last week.

Johnston won the race with a time of 8:59.48 in the Collegiate Classic at Anteater Stadium last Friday night. That mark is the eighth-fastest time in UCI history.

The Anteater track and field teams compete Friday and Saturday in the Cal Poly Invitational at San Luis Obispo.
