Alisha Misiaita Named Big West Field Athlete of Week

Second career honor for UCI sophomore

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore Alisha Misiaita (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) has been named the Big West Conference female Field Athlete of the Week following her record-breaking performance at the Stanford Invitational last weekend.

Misiaita broke her own school record in the shot put for the third time this season with a mark of 50-7 ¼ last Saturday at Stanford. Misiaita finished second in the top section to Hawaii's Meghan Weaver, who recorded a toss of 51-7.

Misiaita's previous UCI record was 50-6 set March 22 in the Collegiate Classic at Anteater Stadium.

This is the second time that Misiaita has won the conference's weekly award as she earned the honor once during her freshman season.

The UCI track and field teams host Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Challenge Cup Friday at Anteater Stadium. Field events begin at 3:00 p.m. with the first track event at 5:00 p.m.
