Matt Lahti Named Big West Field Athlete of Week

UCI sophomore qualifies for NCAA West Regional in hammer

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore Matt Lahti has been named the Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week after his strong performance at the Oxy Invitational last Saturday.

Lahti recorded a mark of 192-3 in the hammer throw to qualify for the NCAA West Regional May 30-31 in Northridge.

That mark ranks No. 4 in UCI history and was a personal best by 10 feet for Lahti. His effort is the third-best throw in the Big West this season.

The UCI track and field teams compete in the Big West Conference Championships Friday and Saturday (May 16-17) in Northridge.
