Honolulu, Hawaii - The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team swept UC Irvine, 3-0 (33-31, 30-26, 30-27) at the Stan Sherif Center Saturday.

 

Eighth-ranked UC Irvine goes to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the MPSF, while No. 14 Hawaii is 9-10 on the year and 6-8 in conference action.

 

Hawaii won the first set 33-31 in a game that saw 18 ties and five lead changes. In game two, UCI rallied to close within 26-25 on a Taylor Wilson kill, but the Anteaters committed two hitting errors and a service error as the Warriors closed out the game on a 4-1 run. Hawaii was in control of game three, 27-21 but the Anteaters would not quit going on a 6-1 spurt to narrow the margin to 28-27. A Hawaii kill followed by an Anteater attack error ended the game, 30-27 and the match, 3-0.

 

Jon Steller led UCI with 10 kills and a career-high 11 digs. Kevin Wynne, Taylor Wilson and Jordan DuFault each recorded eight kills, while Brent Asuka had a team-high 14 digs.  Ryan Ammerman totaled 30 set assists.

 

Jim Clar paced the Warriors with 13 kills followed by Joshua Walker with 12. Clar and Matt Rawson had a match-high seven blocks. Jacob Schkud led all players with 15 digs.
