Henderson becomes first player to win twice at Spartan Tournament

San Jose, Calif. -- UC Irvine senior Selaneé Henderson won the Spartan Invitational at the Almaden Country Club Tuesday, capturing medalist honors for the second consecutive year.

 

Henderson, who won the title in 2007, carded a 54-hole total of 218 (71-71-75) finishing two shots ahead of Pia Halbig of California. Henderson is the Spartan Invitational's first two-time winner of the tournament that dates back to 1983. This is the senior's first tournament win of the year and the sixth of her career.  She is the record holder for career wins at UCI.

 

As a team, UC Irvine finished third in the 15-team field with a three-round total of 906 (298-302-306), seven shots behind California who won tournament with a score of 899. Host San Jose State was second at 904. Washington finished fourth (911) and San Francisco was fifth (912).

 

Senior Kim Lorenzana was ninth with a score of 226 (72-77-77), her third top to finish of the season. Sophomore Patty Chawalitmetha was 27th with a total of 231 (76-78-77), while freshman Hillary Packard finished in 29th position after a 54-hole total of 232 (79-76-77) and sophomore Henna Cho was 38th with a score of 236 (80-77-79).
