UC Irvine Leads Field After First Day Of Big West ChampionshipsApril 21, 2008
Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. -- The UC Irvine women's golf team has three players in the top four positions as the Anteaters lead the Big West Championships after the first 36 holes at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club. The Anteaters shot a 36-hole total of 607 Monday and enter the final round with a 10 stroke lead over UC Davis (617). Cal Poly is third (622), UC Riverside is fourth (628), Cal State Northridge is fifth (629) and Long Beach State is sixth (637). UC Irvine shot a 295 on the second 18, the lowest round of the day to move into first place. Sophomore Patty Chawalitmetha is second after carding a 148 (77-71). Chawalitmetha's 71 on the second round was the second best round of the day. Senior Kim Lorenzana is in third place with a score of 150 (77-73), while senior Selanee' Henderson is fourth with a 36-hole total of 151 (77-74). Freshman Hillary Packard is tied for 14th at 158 (81-77) and sophomore Mariko Makabe is in 27th with a total of 169 (87-82). UC Davis's Chelsea Stelzmiller leads the field after shooting an even par 144 (70-74). The Championship concludes with 18 holes Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com. 1.
