LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 37 UC Irvine women's tennis team (0-1) lost 7-0 to No. 8 USC (2-0) Friday afternoon at Marks Stadium.
The Women of Troy won two of the three matches to clinch the doubles point. Senior Becky Bernhard and junior Ali Borowicz defeated Cristala Andrews and Sarah Fansler 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles match.
In singles, Maria Sanchez beat freshman Brooke Bartlett 3-6, 6-4, 13-11 in the closest match of the day at the No. 5 slot. No. 51 Amanda Fink defeated senior Inna Agababian 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 match. Sarah Fansler beat junior Clare Fermin 6-4, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. No. 78 Gabriela Niculescu beat junior Heidi Kaloi 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 slot. Lelya Entekhabi defeated junior Ali Borowicz 6-3, 6-1 in No. 6 singles. Lindsey Nelson beat Becky Bernhard 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 match.
The Anteaters return to action Thursday as they take on No. 3 UCLA at 1:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
