LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's tennis team (3-4) defeated No. 71 Loyola Marymount 5-2 Friday afternoon in non-conference play at the LMU Tennis Courts.

The Lions won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Tamara Tanner and Pavla Mesterova defeated senior Becky Bernhard and junior Clare Fermin 8-5 in No. 1 doubles. Juniors Heidi Kaloi and Ali Borowicz beat Bliss Nixon and Shauna Morgan 9-8 in No. 3 doubles to give both schools a doubles win. Tina Razloznik and Jasmin Heckle edged seniors Inna Agababian and Jessica Broadfoot 9-8 to clinch the doubles point.

Ali Borowicz defeated Bliss Nixon 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to tie the match at 1-1. Freshman Brooke Bartlett defeated Audrey Bulkley 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot to put UCI up 2-1. Pavla Mesterova beat Becky Bernhard 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 2-2. Jessica Broadfoot put UCI up 3-2 with her 6-1, 7-6 win over Jasmin Heckel in the No. 4 match. Inna Agababian clinched the overall win for UCI as she beat Tamara Tanner 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Clare Fermin beat Tina Razloznik 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 in No. 3 singles to give UCI a 5-2 win.

The Anteaters return to action Sunday as they host Nevada at 11:00 a.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
