Anteaters lose 4-3 to No. 48 Saint Mary's

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 35 UC Irvine women's tennis team (6-5) lost 4-3 to No. 48 Saint Mary's on a windy Sunday afternoon in non-conference play at Anteater Tennis Stadium.  

The Anteaters won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point. Senior Inna Agababian and junior Clare Fermin beat Jessica Hoath and Feline Charlot 9-7 in the No. 1 match. Junior Ali Borowicz and freshman Brooke Bartlett defeated Erin Young and Alex Poorta 8-4 in the No. 3 slot.

In singles, Alex Poorta beat Clare Fermin 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 match to tie the match at 1-1. No. 57 Jessica Hoath defeated Inna Agababian 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 match to put the Gaels up 2-1. Stef Ordoveza beat Ali Borowicz 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 5 match to put SMC up 3-1. Claire Soper clinched the overall team win for Saint Mary's as she beat senior Jessica Broadfoot 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 3 singles match. Junior Heidi Kaloi beat Feline Charlot 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 match to make it 4-2. Brooke Bartlett concluded the match as she won her fourth singles match of the week beating Marah Calvo 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot.

The Anteaters return to action Saturday, March 8th as they travel to Long Beach to face No. 36 Long Beach State in Big West Conference play at 11:00 a.m. at the 49er Tennis Courts.
