IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 47 UC Irvine women's tennis team (7-6) defeated Penn 4-3 Monday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The Quakers won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point. Junior Ali Borowicz and freshman Brooke Bartlett defeated Amanda Avedissian and Yulia Rivelis 9-7 in the No. 3 match.

In singles, senior Inna Agababian was forced to retire due to injury in the No. 2 match to give Yulia Rivelis a 3-0, ret. victory. Brooke Bartlett defeated Charlotte Tansill 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 match to cut the lead to 2-1. Julia Koubitskaya defeated junior Clare Fermin 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 3 match to put Penn up 3-1. Senior Jessica Broadfoot cut the lead to 3-2 as she beat Maria Asimova 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot. Senior Becky Bernhard beat Edaterina Kosminskaya 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in No. 1 singles to tie the match at 3-3. Junior Heidi Kaloi defeated Alexa Ely 7-5, 7-6 in the No. 6 match to clinch the overall team win for the `Eaters.

The Anteaters return to action Thursday as they head cross county to face Cal State Fullerton in Big West Conference play at 2:00 p.m. at Titan Courts.
