NO. 60 ANTEATERS AT UC DAVIS, PACIFIC: The No. 60 UC Irvine women's tennis team (10-7, 4-1) will travel to Northern California to take on a pair of Big West Conference opponents this week. The team will travel to Davis Saturday to face UC Davis at 11:00 a.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center and to Stockton Sunday to face Pacific at 11:00 a.m. at the Hal Nelson Courts.

 

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Aggies are 9-6 overall and 2-2 in Big West play. Robin Guier is the No. 1 singles player for UC Davis.

 

The Tigers are 4-10 overall and 0-4 in Big West play to start the week and host Cal State Fullerton before hosting UCI.  Jolanta Twaroska is the No. 1 singles player for Pacific.

 

WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters went 1-1 on the week with a 5-2 loss to Boise State and a 5-2 win over Cal State Northridge. Senior Becky Bernhard (Roseville/Oakmont HS) and freshman Brooke Bartlett (Fountain Valley HS) each went 2-0 in singles to lead the team for the week.

 

ANTEATERS RANKED 60th: The Anteaters are ranked 60th in the country by the ITA rankings. UCI had it's highest preseason ranking ever as they started the year off ranked 37th.

 

The Anteaters finished the 2006-07 season ranked 35th nationally after a first round loss to Texas in the NCAA Tournament to finish with a 21-5 record. UCI was ranked as high as No. 28 in the country during the season as the team won the Big West regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.

 

ANTEATER LEADERS: Brooke Bartlett leads the team with a 11-3 record. Senior Jessica Broadfoot (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) is second on the team with a 10-6 record. The doubles team of Borowicz and Bartlett is 5-1 on the year at the No. 3 position to lead the team.

 

SENIOR Becky Bernhard IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Becky Bernhard was ranked as high as No. 81 in the Fila/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings in 2007. Bernhard was named Big West Player of the Week six times last season and a total of nine times in her career, more than any women's tennis player in Big West history and more than any athlete at UCI in Big West sports.
