No. 8 Anteaters Beat No. 15 Cal State Northridge 7-5
'Eaters beat Matadors 7-5

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 8 UC Irvine women's water polo team (13-7, 4-4) defeated No. 15 Cal State Northridge Wednesday night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Matadors took a 1-0 lead with 4:46 left in the first period on a power play goal by Dayna Van Gorder. Senior Jessica Lewis tied the match at 1-1 with 2:01 left in the first. Kirra Kylander put CSUN back up 2-1 on a power play goal 46 seconds in the second period. Sophomore Kat Plummer would tie the match at 2-2 just over a minute later on as she converted a penalty throw with 6:03 left in the second period. Junior Julia Fancher gave the `Eaters their first lead of the night as she scored on a power play with 5:26 remaining in the opening half. Junior Gianna Rossi put UCI up 4-2 with 53 seconds left in the half. Van Gorder scored on a power play 34 seconds in the the third period to cut the Anteater lead to 4-3. Gianna Rossi put UCI back up by two as she scored with 5:01 left in the third to make it 5-3. Kat Plummer put UCI up 6-3 less than a minute later with 4:11 left in the third. Chelsea Curran cut the lead to 6-4 as she scored for CSUN with 3:53 remaining in the third. Jessica Lewis netted her second goal of the match on a power play with 1:44 left in the third to put UCI up 7-4. Kirra Kylander scored with 22 seconds left in the fourth period to conclude the match with a 7-5 score.
Senior keeper Lauren Machanis had eight saves for the `Eaters. Keeper Jillian Stapf had 13 saves for the Matadors.
The match was the final home match for UCI's five seniors, Jessica Lewis, Lauren Machanis, Angela Briggs, Alli Russell and Nicole Flacco.
The Anteaters return to action Friday as they head to Honolulu to face No. 4 Hawaii in MPSF play.
