NO. 7 ANTEATERS OFF FROM COMPETITION THIS WEEK: The No. 7 UC Irvine women's water polo team (11-7, 3-4) will be off from competition this week for finals. The team returns to action Wednesday, March 26th as they travel to Pomona to take on Pomona-Pitzer in non-conference play.
WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters beat Indiana 10-1 in their lone match of the week. Senior Jessica Lewis (Los Alamitos HS), sophomore Erin Kiene (Fresno/Clovis West HS) and sophomore Kat Plummer (Thousand Oaks HS) each scored twice against the Hoosiers. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis (Carlsbad HS) had 13 saves in three quarters of play.
UCI RANKED 7TH IN NATION: The Anteaters are ranked 7th in the country in the National Collegiate Water Polo poll. UCI ended 2007 ranked 10th nationally. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 last season which is the highest the Anteaters have been ranked in school history.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Senior Jessica Lewis leads the team with 26 goals on the year. Junior Gianna Rossi (Fresno/Central HS) is second with 21 goals on the year. Junior Sarah Frost (Santa Barbara HS) is third with 19 goals this season. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis has 150 saves this season to lead the team.
ANTEATERS IN THE RECORD BOOK: Junior Gianna Rossi is fourth all-time at UCI with 117 goals. Senior Jessica Lewis is fifth with 109 goals. Junior Julia Fancher is seventh all-time with 82 goals. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis holds the UCI all-time record with 849 career saves.
