Anteaters No. 8 Seed at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship
'Eaters face No. 9 seed San Jose State Thursday

ANTEATERS NO. 8 SEED AT MOUNTAIN PACIFIC SPORTS FEDERATION CHAMPIONSHIP: The UC Irvine women's water polo team (15-10, 6-6) will be the No. 8 seed at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship in San Diego. UCI will open the tournament Thursday against No. 9 seed San Jose State at 3:50 p.m. at the Aztec Aquaplex.
MPSF CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: The Anteaters are the No. 8 seed after finishing the regular season tied for seventh in the MPSF. The Anteaters went 6-6 in MPSF play tying their best ever record in the league. If the Anteaters defeat San Jose State, they will play No. 1 seed UCLA Friday at 11:20 a.m. An Anteater loss Thursday would move them into the consolation bracket where they would next play Saturday.
WEEK IN REVIEW: The `Eaters went 1-1 as they defeated Long Beach State 7-4 and lost 9-7 to Loyola Marymount. Freshman Cortney Collyer (Santa Barbara HS) led the team with three goals on the week. Sophomore Kat Plummer (Thousand Oaks HS) scored in both matches to improve her scoring streak to 13 straight matches. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis (Carlsbad HS) had 20 saves on the week.
UCI RANKED 8TH IN NATION: The Anteaters are ranked 8th in the country in the National Collegiate Water Polo poll. UCI ended 2007 ranked 10th nationally. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 last season which is the highest the Anteaters have been ranked in school history.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Senior Jessica Lewis leads the team with 35 goals on the year. Junior Gianna Rossi and sophomore Kat Plummer are tied for second with 29 goals on the year. Junior Sarah Frost (Santa Barbara HS) is fourth with 24 goals this season. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis has 195 saves this season to lead the team.
ANTEATERS IN THE RECORD BOOK: Junior Gianna Rossi is fourth all-time at UCI with 125 goals. Senior Jessica Lewis is fifth with 118 goals. Junior Julia Fancher is sixth all-time with 88 goals. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis holds the UCI all-time record with 894 career saves. Kat Plummer has currently scored in 13 straight matches for the fourth longest streak in UCI history.
