SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A total of 20 UC Santa Barbara student-athletes that participated in men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming were recognized for their efforts in the classroom by being named to the 2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference team, the league announced Tuesday.
To qualify for Academic All-Conference Team, a student athlete must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically, and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests. Overall, 85 student athletes from nine universities made the cut.
The women's swimming team garnered the most recognitions of any winter sport team with 10. Next in line was the men's swimming team with seven student-athletes making the grade. Women's basketball placed two on the All-Academic team and the men's basketball team put one on the list.
