HONOLULU - Freshman Tyler Weir (San Marcos, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) shot a 5-under par 211, while sophomore Brian Hollenbeck (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton HS), and junior Tony Verna (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte HS) each shot 4-under par 212, to help UC Santa Barbara to an 11th-place finish in the tough 21-team John Burns Intercollegiate at the Schofield Barracks in Honolulu. As a team, the Gauchos shot 849.
After shooting 1-over par in the first round, Weir carded a 2-under par 70 in the second round, and a 4-under par final round to finish with his 211. He tied for 27th in a field of 110 competitors. Hollenbeck opened the tourney with a 3-under par 69, before shooting 70 and 73 to close things out. Verna was consistent over the three-day event, shooting 71, 70, and 71. Hollenbeck and Verna tied for 34th.
Sophomore Matt Grush (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood HS) finished tied for 59th with a 217. After carding a 3-over par 75 in the first round, Grush bounced back with a 2-under par 70 and an at par 72 in the final two rounds.
UCSB's fifth player was freshman Michael Casca (Camarillo, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) who finished tied for 88th at 223. Casca's best round was a final round 2-under par 70.
Auburn, which finished at 820, 44-under par as a team, won the tournament going away, defeating Texas A&M by 11 shots. The Aggies, at 33-under par,finished one stroke ahead of UNLV, which was 32-under par. Auburn's 44-under par performance was a new tournament record.
San Diego State shot a 29-under par 278 to finish fourth, six shots ahead of SMU. Cal shot 284, 21-under par, and three shots better than Fresno State, which finished seventh at 18-under par. Arkansas, UTEP and BYU each shot 17-under par 847 to tie for eighth and finish two shots ahead of UCSB.

The individual winner was Cal's Stephen Hale, ,who shot 15-under par to win by two shots over Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon, and UTEP's Herbert Day, who each shot 13-under par 203.
The Gauchos return to action on March 3-4 when they travel to Beaumont, Calif., and the PGA West Course, to play in UC Riverside's Braveheart Classic.
