No. 36 Washington State Downs UCSB, 5-2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team continued its lengthy homestand this afternoon with a 5-2 loss to No. 36 Washington State, at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts. The defeat drops the Gauchos record to 5-6 overall for the season.

The Cougars (9-5 overall) grabbed two of the three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead. Washington State striked first when the Cougar pair of Bianca Selaru and Aleksandra Stefanova defeated Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen 8-3, at No. 3 doubles. The Gauchos countered at No. 2 doubles as the duo of Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga handled Aleksandra Cekic and Marina Nicolas 8-6. Washington State captured the doubles point at the No. 1 doubles slot, as Ekaterina Burduli and Ekaterina Kamendova edged seniors Marta Simic and Charlotte Scatliffe 9-8 (6).

In singles play, the Cougars wrapped up the victory by taking the first three singles matches. The lone winners for the Gauchos in singles was at No. 5 and No. 6. Tova Hausman dropped Cekic 6-3, 6-1, while Brittany Kausen earned a win at the No. 6 spot taking down Jessica Gomez 6-2, 4-6, (1-0) (3).

UCSB continues its homestand this Wednesday as they face off against Gonzaga. First serve at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts is set for 1:30 p.m. (PT).
