SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team swept the doubles point and cruised in singles play this afternoon over visiting Gonzaga, winning the match 6-1. The victory is the Gauchos sixth on the year and evens their record to 6-6 overall on the season.
The Gauchos got off to a fast start sweeping all three doubles matches from the Bulldogs. Seniors Marta Simic and Charlotte Scatliffe set the tone for UC Santa Barbara, dominating Emily Anderson and Aglaya Kokurina 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. At the No. 2 doubles slot, the Gaucho tandem of Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga beat Danielle Farmer and Clare Dodge 8-4, securing the doubles point for UC Santa Barbara. The sweep was official when Tova Hausem and Brittany Kausen posted a victory against the Bulldog duo of Rika Mehndiratta and Kristen MacWilliam 8-6.
UC Santa Barbara carried the momentum from doubles into singles action taking five out of six matches. Hausman, playing at No. 5, wasted no time against her opponent MacWilliam, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Asagi Onaga had no trouble at No. 5, downing Dodge 6-3, 6-0. The Gauchos captured the victory at No. 6, as Kausen was victorious over Farmer 6-3, 6-0. The lone victory for Gonzaga was notched by Anderson at No. 2 singles, as she dropped Scatliffe 7-6, 7-6, (2).
The Gauchos will next entertain Big West foe Cal State Northridge this Saturday. First serve at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts is set for 11:00 a.m. (PT)
