Final Stats

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A solid team effort and a historic win from both senior Sebastian Gonzales-Orbegoso (Lima, Peru/Cambridge College) and junior Leandro Osorio (Quillota, Chile/Subercaseaux) helped the USC Upstate men's tennis team down Presbyterian, 7-0, for its third straight win on Friday afternoon at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

The Spartans swept all nine matches during the day, including all three doubles, led by Gonzales-Orbegoso and Osorio's win at the No. 1 slot. Not only was the duo's 8-5 win over Matthew Martin and Andrew Lee the school's first at the No. 1 doubles slot in the Division I era, it was also Gonzales-Orbegoso's 50th career doubles win. He joins three former Division II All-Americans in the 50 doubles wins club in Diego Sist (2002-06, 50), Jose Luis Reyes (2001-05, 63) and Stefan Dumitrescu (2003-07, 71).

The Spartans also posted wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles slots, with sophomore Renzo Airaldi (Lima, Peru)/Domingo Faustino Sarmiento) and sophomore Javier Tori (Lima, Peru/Markham College) beating Brad Luciuk and Henry Walker, 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and junior Sandy Franz (Duesseldorf, Germany/Berufskolleg Hilden) and sophomore Jack Roux (Santiago, Chile/Subercaseaux) posted and 8-2 win over Patrick Fediuk and Adam Herendeen.

In singles play, Tori downed Walker, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles to start. Roux added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mark Cannatelli at No. 5 and Gonales-Orbegoso downed Luciuk, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Arnaldo Lovera (Caracas, Venezuela) posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Lee in his first action of the spring at No. 3, Airaldi posted a 6-4, 7-6 (0) win over Fediuk at No. 2 and Franz wrapped up the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Martin at No. 1.

The Spartans will look for their fourth straight win when they host Appalachian State on Friday at 2 p.m.
