Final Stats

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Sophomore Jack Roux (Santiago, Chile/Subercaseaux) won both his singles and doubles match, but the USC Upstate men's tennis team fell for the first time in eight matches on Sunday at Winthrop's Memorial Courts, as Winthrop beat Upstate, 5-2.

Roux and junior Sandy Franz (Duesseldorf, Germany/Berufskolleg Hilden) won the lone doubles match for Upstate (8-3 overall) posted an 8-3 win over Jose Pardo and Marcin Majchrzak. The Eagles won at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the doubles point.

In singles play, senior Sebastian Gonzales-Orbegoso (Lima, Peru/Cambridge College) posted a win at No. 5 singles against Pardo, 6-2, 6-2, to open singles play. Roux added a win at No. 3 singles against Alejandro Portugal, 6-1, 7-5, but that was all the Spartans could manage.

Upstate will now get ready to make a trip to Lipscomb, where it will face off with the Bisons at 3 p.m. on Friday.
