JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The USC Upstate men's tennis team fell, 5-1, on Sunday morning to the Big 12 Conference's Nebraska at the ETSU Tennis Courts on the campus of East Tennessee State. The Spartans fall to 10-4 overall with the loss. The lone Spartan win was at No. 6 singles, with sophomore Arnaldo Lovera (Caracas, Venezuela) downed Mark Tate, 7-5, 6-3, as he improved to 7-5 overall on the season and 3-1 in dual meets. The Spartans fought hard against the Big 12 Huskers (7-9 overall), as two sets went 12 games and two more during the match were forced into tiebreakers. At No. 1 singles, junior Sandy Franz (Duesseldorf, Germany/Berufskolleg Hilden) fell by two points in a super tie-break to David Bendheim, 6-4, 6-7, 10-8. The Spartans get back into action on Friday, March 21 when Stetson visits the USC Upstate Tennis Complex for a 2 p.m. contest. Stetson is ranked 53rd in the country and leads the Atlantic Sun with a 4-0 conference mark and an 11-3 overall tally. Men's Tennis Results Nebraska 5, USC Upstate 1 Singles competition 1.
